Salsa Partnering Series
This series is for the student with little to no experience of salsa, and will cover the fundamentals of salsa, turn patterns, musicality and more. At the end of this 8-week series, students will be able to execute basic salsa turn patterns, and feel reasonably comfortable leading (or following) in a club setting. It’s the perfect course to get you ready for the dance floor.
This 8 week series is split into two parts.
Part 1: Covers fundamentals like the basic salsa step, right turns, left turns, and timing. This class is held on Sundays at 2:00PM.
Part 2: Expands on the fundamentals to include increasingly more difficult turn patterns, as well as more musicality – with a focus on dancing, rather than just executing steps. This class is held on Sundays at 3:00PM.
We start new cycles/courses every month and spaces must be reserved. Please check the page for NEW cycle dates
Salsa Advanced Beginner Series
The Advanced Beginner class consists of Salsa tools (such as copas, wraps, 180’s) and turn patterns. We cover the leading & following techniques of each tool and how to incorporate it into a Salsa turn pattern. You must have a good foundation and understanding of Salsa timing, know how to lead/follow inside and outside turns, cross-body leads, as well as different variations and combinations using these tools.
Advanced Beginner consists of a 2 month syllabus. Every month we will cover different tools. This class is offered on Sundays at 4:00pm, The first 3 weeks of each month will build up to come together during the 4th week.
If you started with Laurel at UMA you must have completed the 8-week Beginner Salsa preferably a few cycles of Part 2.
If you are coming from another studio – it is ideal to have at least 4-5 months of Salsa dancing. If you need a refresher course and want to get used to our style of teaching before jumping into this level – please join our Beginner Salsa Part 2.
Bachata Partnering Series
Bachata originated in the Dominican Republic but is danced world wide. Traditional Bachata is done with 3 steps and a tap on 4. This series teaches the Bachata foundation: basic footwork patterns, timing, dance positions, leading and following and footwork. Each week builds on the week previous.
